Before working with E3 Publishing House Limited, I had heard very little about panic attacks, apart from the film 'analyse this'. Panic attacks are far more common and a lot more people than I would have realised before. Its like when you buy a new car, suddenly, everyone has the same car as you - you begin to take notice.. as soon as I started working on a website about panic attacks, I seemed to meet people who had suffered them. Most people will know at least one person who has faced the terror of panic attacks and I believe that the book by Lorraine Mason - 'Panic Attacks - Five Steps To Freedom' would help very much.

New apartments added to Alicante property website

Just finished uploading new pictures, apartment rental rates and descriptions to the Elite Property Management website. Based in Rojales, Spain, Elite Property Management Rent Apartments and Villas in Spain. Now that the pages are uploaded I can go back to working on the website for newly released panic attacks book 'Panic Attacks - Five Steps To Freedom' .

Think I will go to bed for a well earned 3 hour power nap first!

Today we finally launch the eagerly awaited website for IBC Language Services in Bolton. This site has been active for the last month with a basic place holder but today we will make the whole website live. What makes this website special to us is that it marks our expansion into the field of Multilingual search engine marketing. New database of North West Wedding Venues

One of our newer clients, Modern Weddings Photography & Wedding planning, have had a website for quite a number of years but the site was not really optimised for search engines. As a result we are working tirelessly to get their website up in the rankings for numerous search praises - primarily "Bolton Wedding Photographer".

Although seo work can take time, especially in such a competitive marketplace such as wedding photography, the rewards are long term. You can spend hundreds of pounds each week in newspaper advertisements, but once the ads have finished, your reach does too. Increased Bandwidth to our hosting packages

Our hosting packages have been increased today by as much as 10gb per month. The reason is two fold. Initially we took the sensible approach to web hosting - we design and maintain web sites ourselves and therefore we know that most websites only take up a few MB of space and even with thousands of hits per month, a well designed site will never really take much of a drain on server resources or bandwidth. With this in mind we allocated quite small but reasonable amounts of bandwidth and web space to client's sites.

Upon opening up our hosting services to the general public, we tend to get a few 'tyre kickers' who tell you ' hosting company B is giving you 20GB of bandwidth per month' - to which I would reply - ' if you can use it, buy it'. The only exception I would find to this where we are increasingly hosting websites for local bands in Manchester and Bolton. The use of mp3 on music websites to promote unsigned bands is an excellent development on the internet but can take a bit more of a toll on bandwidth and with this in mind we now quite happily increase bandwidth on all our hosting packages.

However, we still believe that for the average business user with a small mini site ( 1-4 pages ), you do not need such a big web hosting package so the next time you are told you need to pay over £40 per year for your hosting, think before you sign up.

A recent report on search engine usage by tech company Nielsen/NetRatings has shown the that as many as 46.3% of all internet searches originate with Google. This does not seem as such a surprise to many, including myself; but think for a second.. that leaves over half of all other searches going though other search engines and directories.
Everyone goes on about how important it is to get your site ranked high in Google: they are not wrong. But to focus all your attention on just one search engine is like placing your proverbial eggs in one basket. The other two search engines to get into double figures were Yahoo with 23.4% and Msn search with 11.4%.

Once these three search engines are tackled, we are still left with over 18% of search queries coming from other sources.. the principles being AOL (6.9% - but powered by Google Search) and AskJeeves.

So the next time you have someone ring you up, saying that they can get you into the top rankings on Google; ask them where else they are going to get you ranked..

There are thousands of websites on the internet which profess to have all the tools and knowledge needed to get your website in the top pages on Google, msn and yahoo. So which ones have the right idea? The fact of the matter is, the search engines don't go spreading about how to 'manipulate' search engine results. Therefore, most people have to make an educated guess... how educated is the key.

The best place to start when trying to understand search engine optimisation is straight from the proverbial horse's mouth. Try for a start.. Matt Cutt's Blog.. This Google employee regularly tells us what *not* to do when trying to get a good ranking. Along with this, Google give out a few hints for webmasters on their support site.

Regardless of what anyone tells you about getting good rankings the best thing to get better rankings for your site is CONTENT.. develop a nice site with lots of good, interesting and original content and people will link to it, search engines will index it and people will come to it and more importantly.. keep coming back.

Another pleasant surprise this month has been the Elite Property Management Website. During Google's last major update, the rankings for Elite Pm had gone down quite a lot from page one to page 5 and I was perturbed to say the least but today having done a search for ' Apartments in Rojales' I was pleased to see Elite ranked #1 for this phrase.

Spanish property websites are a mean task to do seo work on as the amount of competition is immense. Do a search for costa blanca apartments on Google and you will see 2,860,000 results! However, do not worry, as anyone with time, commitment and a little knowledge can get thier site ranked high on the web, the more competition there is just means it will take that little while longer. BE PATIENT!

Starlight Security Solutions

One of our successes over the last few months has been the Starlight Security Solutions website. Whilst it will never win any great awards for the design, the rankings it now receives are splendid. This comes from hard work and lots of hours editing pages and emailing sites asking for links.
DON'T TRUST ANY SEO COMPANY THAT TELL YOU THEY CAN IMPROVE YOUR RANKINGS WHILST DOING NOTHING TO EDIT YOUR SITE. 90% of sites will need at least SOME fine tuning.

However, the value of getting good quality links to your website is immense - as long as they are related links.. from industry related pages and not... from pages such as 'lesbian mothers of scotland' ( one such page I found a rather dubious Manchester seo company had used to link to a client ).

The joys of being self employed

The joys of self employment.

Feel really knackered at the moment having had about 3 hrs sleep last night. The problem you face when you work for yourself is there is no one else to pick up the work when you go home. Working from home is even worse because you never escape the workload. There are ups and downs to this self employment lark. I get to choose my own hours.. but when them hours seem to be 23 of the allotted 24 then you have to wonder.

You don't have a boss moaning on at you - aye but you have 30 odd customers at any given time, all with requests, some valid, some quite obscure (but you still have to deal with them).

I sat up all night, uploading an oscommerce site to my hosting server. The girl who's site it is has been complaining of slow page load times, which when you look.. I can see why she is complaining. It seems that a lot of people have problems with US hosting servers. I myself only host on quality Unix servers in the UK and thus, I *hope* that I can at least provide a faster and more reliable service.

Anyway, I managed to move the oscomerce from jojos lingerie in the usa to her lingerie site in the uk Anyway, now I have to get back to work on a panics attack website I am sorting out.. its a never ending task being self employed but I wouldn't change it (apart from delegate a little of the work maybe)

Hello, let me introduce myself: My name is Alex and I work in the sometimes murky world of search engine optimisation.. I get a lot of people coming to me if they want their web site to rank higher in search engines such as google, yahoo and msn.

The reason I started this blog is two fold. Firstly I would like to dispel a few myths that I have encountered about 'internet placement' and search engine rankings.
Secondly, I would like to get more traffic to my own site.. well bugger me.. this is what the blog is about isn't it?

As I progress and hopefully get a few people actually viewing this site, I hope to actually enlighten some of you out there about the do's and the don'ts about promoting your web site and what you should and should not come to expect from a reputable search engine placement specialist.
